A Word from Psalm 95

As I was looking at social media the other day, I came across some videos of young goats. Now, I don’t know if you’ve seen similar videos. Nor do I know if all young goats are like the ones that I saw. But these “kids” (which, of course, is the name for young goats) were having a blast! They were running around their pen and randomly jumping up in the air. In short, they looked like they didn’t have a care in the world. And—since they were obviously well-cared for—they probably didn’t.

Naturally, you might wonder how any of that could be the source of a daily devotional thought! But it just so happens that one of my readings for this morning was Psalm 95, which includes these words:

Come, let us bow down in worship,

     let us kneel before the Lord our Maker;

for He is our God

     and we are the people of His pasture,

     the flock under his care.” (95:6-7)

Now, I don’t know about you. But I find it easy to forget that I’m part of the “flock under God’s care.” It’s awfully easy to get loaded down by all the responsibilities and cares of the world—so much so that running and jumping and “having a blast” is rarely on my radar screen. And yet, I’m reminded by God’s Word today that there’s a truth that’s deeper and stronger than the burdens that often weigh on my heart. Because underneath it all, I’m just a “kid” under God’s care. And just in case you forget that sometimes, let me remind you that you are, too.

So today, let’s bow down (and run, and skip, and jump, and play) in worship. Because we are the people of God’s pasture. And He has provided not only for our salvation…but also for our joy. Amen.
