A Word from Psalm 105
If you were going to tell the story of how God has worked in your life, what would some of the highlights be? Would you talk about people who introduced you to faith, who taught you God’s word, or who set an example of godly behavior? Would you include experiences in which God spoke to you or inspired to you? Would you mention how God has blessed you, or called you, or given you hope? And whatever you’d share, when’s the last the time that you told some of that story?
I ask this because today’s word comes from Psalm 105, which in many ways tells the story of how God worked in the life of His people Israel. We hear about the covenant He made with Abraham, and about the famine that led the Israelites to make their home in Egypt. We hear about Joseph, and Moses, and the plagues God used to set His people free. We hear how God led his people through the wilderness, giving them manna to eat and water from the rock.
But the telling of this story is proceeded by this call:
Give praise to the Lord, proclaim His name;
make known among the nations what He has done.
Sing to Him, sing praise to Him;
tell of all His wonderful acts.
Glory in His holy name;
let the hearts of those who seek the Lord rejoice.
Look to the Lord and His strength;
seek His face always. (105:1-4)
You see, your story might be different than the story of God’s Old Testament people. But you’ve still got a story to tell! So, this weekend, why don’t you look for ways to tell your story? Not necessarily the whole thing, of course. But can you find a way to say something to someone about what God has done in your life?
May others become part of God’s story, because of the way that we share our story. Amen.
