A Word from 1 Peter 1

When Monday morning comes, do you tend to see the week ahead as a time filled with opportunities and blessings, or as a time filled with challenges and hardships?

Now obviously, your answer to that question might depend on the particular Monday morning. And yet, it does highlight the way in which our underlying attitude about what we’re going through shapes our experience of life. And in today’s word from 1st Peter Chapter 1, we’re given a reason to look at every Monday morning with an incredibly hopeful attitude.

Praise be to the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ!” Peter says. “In his great mercy he has given us new birth into a living hope…and into an inheritance that can never perish, spoil or fade…In all this you greatly rejoice, though now—for a little while—you may have had to suffer grief in all kinds of trials. These have come so that the proven genuineness of your faith—which is of greater worth than gold—may result in praise, glory and honor when Jesus Christ is revealed. Though you have not seen him, you love him; and even though you do not see him now, you believe in him and are filled with an inexpressible and glorious joy, for you are receiving the end result of your faith, the salvation of your souls.” (1:3-8)

So on this Monday morning, I hope you’ll be excited about the opportunity and blessing ahead. And even if there are trials along the way, I hope they’ll only purify your trust in the One who loves you—and who will save you—on that day when his glory is revealed. Amen.
